Personally inscribed by the author in year of publication on the front endpaper "For Masha, with the hope that this companion of a dark hour may bring with it a host of sunny ones - [signed] Babette. June 2 1930". Babette Deutsch (1895-1982) was married to critic and scholar Avrahm Yarmolinsky (1890-1975).
