Previous owner's bookplate "Mr. Hugh Renton." Previous owner's name signed on front endpaper "John Burns Nov 12, 1919." In 1919, Andrew Carnegie left John Elliott Burns (1858-1943) an annuity of 1000 pounds. Burns, having retired from politics, pursued his hobbies until his death, which included book collecting. Much of his collection now resides at the Senate House Library (University of London Library).
