408 pages of text. Original full leather binding is slightly rubbed at the extremities, with moderate creasing and surface crackling of spine leather; spine label remains in remnant only. Contains 9 maps and plates, of which 5 are fold-out, as well as several in-text illustrations. Apparently plate 8 was omitted by the binder. Text includes: 1) A Description of the Antiquities discovered in the Western Country; originally Communicated to the American Antiquarian Society, by Caleb Atwater, and; 2) Remarks made on a Tour to Prairie du Chien; thence unto Washington City, in 1829. The entire text is affected moderately to heavily by exposure to moisture, with rippling of pages, moderate to heavy foxing, and some staining. However, it remains intact, usable, and contains no unpleasant odor or mold. Maps include: 1) Ancient Works near Newark in Licking County, Ohio; 2) Ancient Stone Fort and Mound in Perry County Ohio; 3) Ancient Works at Marietta Ohio; 4) Ancient Works at Circleville Ohio; 5) Ancient Works on Paint Creek, Ohio; 6) Ancient Works at Portsmouth, Ohio; 7) Plan of an Ancient Fortification, Situate on the E. bank of the Little Miami River, Warren County, Ohio about 33 miles N.East of Cincinnati; 8) lacking; 9) Ancient Parallel Walls Supposed to have been erected for a place of Amusement; 10) Ancient Works near Piketon, Ohio.
