One page letter, signed "Wm. H. Crawford." Addressed to James W. McCulloch collector of the Customs Baltimore, with postmark Washn. City June 14 [1823], and free franked by Crawford over which is stamped "Free." The letter is dated June 13, 1823 Treasury Department. "Sir, In reply to your letter of the 10th instant relative to the terms on which Sea Letters are, in future, to be issued from your office; I have to observe that you are authorized to issue them, without any limitation whatsoever, when demanded. I am respectfully your obd. sert. [signed] Wm. H. Crawford." Folded from sending through the mail. American politician and judge during the early 19th century. He served as U.S. Secretary of War from 1815 to 1816 and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1816 to 1825, and was a candidate for President of the U.S. in 1824.
