Two volumes in one. 240 pages of text, followed by [4] pages, and 232 pages of text. Original hardcover binding: blue paper-covered boards and gray paper-covered spine with handwritten paper spine label. Binding is lightly to moderately worn and soiled, remaining intact and attractive. Illustrated by two leaves of plates. LACKS the folding map/battle plan. Book measures almost 17.5 cm in height (7 inches). Previous owner's stamp (circa 1900) on title page, and bookplate on the front pastedown endpaper: Henry von Wackerbarth. Moderate to sometimes heavy browning to text, with a few pages very dark, and several pages with staining, and a few with minor creases. The frontisportrait of Wackerbarth is trimmed, with two small chips and a tear. Title continues "...derer Vestungen, Konigstein, Sonnenstein und Stolpen, auch Ritters des Pohlnischen weissen Adler-Ordens, etc. August Christophs Des Heil. Rom. Reichs Grafens von Wackerbarth. Zum Druck ubergeben und mit Kupffern versehen." A biography of distinguished general and bibliophile, with many poems, descriptions of festivities and dramatic performances; a long inscription in Latin and German, on the tragic accident of the burning of his library at Dresden, written by Johann Gottlieb Knittel. Includes a dramatic cantata by Theodor Christlieb Reinhold and most curious, a poem by a musketeer, previously imprisoned for writing a satire and thereupon released. German Baroque literature.
