Two volumes bound together. The original binding, made of paper-covered hardcover boards, is heavily worn, with a lot of chipping to the paper, but remaining intact and functional. Previous owners 18th Century engraved bookplate on the inside front cover, and contemporary marginalia on the front endpaper.  pages, followed by 136 pages of text, followed by [ii], iv, 141-236 pages of text, followed by a small printed bound-in sheet containing the corrigenda (corrections to text). The text is followed by 14 black & white plates of fish, and 4 plates of insects and shellfish.There is damp-staining to the top margin, not affecting the text of plates, except on a few pages of text. There is minor foxing scattered lightly in the text, and a small amount of soiling. The text is quite clean and attractive, and remains in the full untrimmed state, with pages measuring a full 17 inches in height.
