1760 Land Sale Receipt, Release or Indenture for 200 acres of land continguous to Mt. Vernon, sold by Sampson and Mary Darrell to George Washington.

A large document, measuring over 34 inches long and almost 15 inches wide, which transfers land from the Darrell family to George Washington for the price of 150 pounds of current money of Virginia. This land added to the Mt. Vernon estate. An entirely handwritten legal document containing 63 lines of text. Signed by Sampson Darrell and Mary Darrell, with a wax seal following each signature. Additionally signed on the back of the document, along with docketing, by George Johnston, again by Sampson Darrell, and by J. Wagonner? The docketing also refers to this being recorded in folio 683, which corresponds with information recorded in the Fairfax Deed Book Index 1742 - 1797. The document has a dozen sizable chips, and numerous small chips, and has been archivally mended with a profusion of Japanese tissue. The entire document has been encapsulated in archival mylar. The name George Washington appears on the document 11 times, though it is not autographed or written by him.
