The text is clean and unmarked. Of Patterson, the "Alta California" once said "If the state of California were hunted through, it would not be possible to find a minder who had stuck to his business longer or more steadily." His narrative is an interesting one, detailing the trip to San Francisco in 1849; his travels and adventures in the Mining Districts and life and experience at Mormon Island and Georgetown.
