A few numbers written at the top of the title page, where it is also stained; except for minor soiling, the text is otherwise clean and unmarked. Contains numerous woodcuts. The author was from Poplar Ridge, Ross County, Ohio. Field 989, "The author had the advantage of personal communication with the families and neighbors of these Indian fighters, and thus secured many details of their exploits among the savages which would otherwise have been lost. His own experience reaches back to the latter part of the last century." Early printing, not a first edition.
