xxxii, 687 pages of text. Full red leather binding with gilt decoration and gilt lettering; minor rubbing to the hinges, minor darkening to the spine, and minor shelfwear. All edges gilt. The first and final few pages are moderately foxed, with minor foxing scattered lightly throughout the text. Illustrated with a frontisportrait of Milton, with small cracks at the hinge. Contains 24 tipped-in albumen prints by John Martin. Previous owner's bookplate neatly on the inside front cover: John Robson. Stamped on the inside front cover, the binder is identified in gilt letterpress as Bickers & Son London. Measures (height) 8 13/16" (225mm).
