A previous owner's name is written on the inside front cover: P.G. Wood Brig Genl. USA Los Angeles Cal Aug.1908. Palmer Gaylord Wood (1843-1915) served in the Civil War as Second (and later First) Lieutenant of the 7th California Volunteer Infantry starting October 28, 1864. He also served in the Spanish American War. A small clipping related to the death of Custer is affixed to a rear endpaper, facing the words of the final chapter which includes this subject. First edition.
