London: Printed for T. Lowndes, 1779. Second edition. Hardcover. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Very good+ condition. Item #019014
Three volume set. Full leather bindings with an older but nearly invisible re-backing of speckled calf and gilt-stamped spine labels. The first and final pages have minor browning to the margins. The first edition is one of the rarest novels in the English language. "Evelina" was the authoress's first book - it proved incomparably the greatest novel between Fielding and Jan Austen and raised Fanny Burney, a timid and obscure girl, to the pinnacle of fame (Rothschild 546). Second edition.
