With a fleece-lined slipcase that is moderately worn. With the bookplate of Gilbert Verney and a plate mentioning the previous owner John G. Minant (1889-1947) a US Ambassador to England. Does not contain the 16 pages of advertisements dated October, 1849. Contains the three pages of advertisements for the 3rd edition of Jane Eyre at the end of Vol. III. Shirley was the second published novel by Charlotte Bronte. The title character, Shirley Keeldar, was drawn from her sister, Emily Bronte. First edition.
