The Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America in Congress July 4th 1776. THE GILES-LIBERTY FACSIMILE OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.

Durham, NC and New York, NY: Giles Lithographic and Liberty Printing Co. N.Y. for Mess. W. Duke Sons & Co., 1880. Early edition. Unbound. Large folio. Very good+ condition. Item #019147

Lithographic print on faux parchment, measuring approximately 20.5" x 27". Original metal trim present at top and bottom edge with minor creasing, and minor oxidization to the metal finish. There is minor wear and minor wrinkling to the edges of the parchment, and there are a total of about a dozen pin holes present at the top and bottom of the document. What appear to be creases/folds and soiling are actually part of the lithographic facsimile. This is a broadside that can be rolled for shipping. This Giles-Liberty 1880's reprint of the Declaration of Independence is of the famous facsimile originally published by Benjamin Owen Tyler in 1818. Tyler's documents were the first to produce the Declaration in script and included exceptionally realistic signatures of the signers. As also noted by Bidwell (#2; see the note after the entry on p. 287), Giles lithographs are facsimiles of Tyler's work. These were apparently produced as premiums for Duke tobacco products and could only be obtained by redeeming certificates from 75 packets of Duke products. Uncommon.
