France: American Expeditionary Forces, 1918. First Edition. Hardcover. Oblong octavo (8vo). Very good- condition. Item #019245

34 un-numbered pages of text, with five mounted photographic prints. The string-tied portfolio is chipped on the spine and corners; with lithographed front cover label. The penciled name of the previous owners is present on the front cover title and on the back of one sheet; she is listed among the names of the 222 operators which are printed on the final 6 pages of text. All of the text is uniformly browned, with many of the pages detached from the double hole-punched string-tie bound binding, and most of the edges are chipped and/or torn without any loss of text. Most of the text is typed Christmas greetings from various commissioned officers and other officials for presentation to the telephone operators. Three of the photographs are portraits of General John J. Pershing (1860-1948), James Guthrie Harbord (1866-1947), and Edgar E. Russel and the other two photographs show operators in action at the switchboards. While most of the operators are listed as being from the USA, there are several from France, Brussels, Canada and Switzerland.
