First edition, first state with perfect type on second to last line on page 135 the word "wearily" and the top edge of the closed pages is gilt covered. Title page is printed in black and red. Minor soiling to numerous page margins, and the inner front hinge is starting to crack. A few pages with minor loss to the margin due to less than perfect opening of previously uncut and unopened pages. The previous owner's bookplate is affixed neatly to the inside front cover: Paul Hyde Bonner. Typed letter signed by bookseller Carl Kroch dated 1941 confirming the sale of this copy of this book. Includes a simple custom-fitted slipcase. First edition, first state.
