Incomplete: Lacks two plates. xiii, [i] blank, 404 pages of text including a bibliography and an index. Recent quarter leather binding with marbled paper-covered boards. Front cover cloth bound in as the front endpaper. Lacks the half-title page, frontispiece page, title page, and the large folding map at the rear, which have all been supplied in facsimile on good quality paper. The original chromolithograph frontispiece is present, mounted on the facsimile frontispiece page. Lacks the two mounted photo illustrations at pages 87 and 141. Additionally illustrated with twelve black and white lithographed plates, and six mounted photographs and a total of three maps including the large facsimile. Three plates are detached. Ex-libris stamps in blind scattered throughout the text. Several pages have chips to corners, as well as small tears, creases, minor staining and/or soiling, and other small defects. This work describes Hans Meyer's second try and first successful attempt to reach the highest of Kilimanjaro's three peaks, Kibo, in 1889. First edition.
