Two volume set. The revised and considerably enlarged 3rd edition, complete with 39 engraved plates (including the frontisportrait in Vol. II) and 22 engraved maps by finely engraved by or after Emmanuel Bowen (rather than the Moll series of maps engraved for the first edition), fifteen of which are folding. Title pages printed in red and black, the text is printed in double columns, contains historiated initials, and woodcut head- and tailpieces. The text of this edition is extensively revised by John Campbell to include voyages undertaken after the first edition of 1705 was published. Circa 1970 leather spine and corners with cloth covered boards; minor shelfwear rubbing, and several small spots of scuffing and/or discoloration, and slight weakening to hinges. Minor soiling, tiny tears, and small creases affecting a small number of pages; some pages exhibit minor rippling, which is not due to exposure to moisture. Vol. I: [vi], xiv, [viii], 984 pages of text. Vol. II: x, 1056 pages, followed by [xxi] pages of index and [i] page containing a list of plates and maps. Includes descriptions of America, the South Seas, the West Indies, the North Pole, Russia, China, Africa and India.
