23 page tract, printed in German. Red paperback binding with minor shelfwear. The text is clean and unmarked. In 1943 the author, a German Quaker, was convicted of the offense of befriending the Jews in her neighborhood and sentenced to prison in Manheim, Germany. Her husband was also sent to prison in another place, and they were only released two years later when American troops arrived. In this letter describing her prison years, the author writes in an unusually sensitive way of how prison was for her an agency of inward liberation. First edition.
