Provenance: A previous owner's engraved bookplate is affixed neatly to the inside front cover, engraved with the name "Rolle" and the Latin motto "Nec Rege, Nec Populo, Sed Utroque". This translates to "Not with the King, not with the People, but on both sides". This is the bookplate of John Rolle, 1st Baron Rolle (1750-1842).
