Four volume set in the original publisher's slipcase. Volume one is signed "Carl Sandburg" on the half-title page with no additional inscription. All four volumes are bound in matching blue cloth, in almost new condition. Very minor thumbing-through creases to the first few pages of the first volume. Otherwise the set appears unread. No dustjackets - as issued. The original slipcase included the lid with the large printed label is intact, but is lightly to moderately sunned, rubbed and shelfworn. The original ribbon-pull issued with the slipcase is partially lacking. Stated on copyright page "First Edition After Printing 525 De Luxe Copies." The set contains 414 photographs and 249 reproductions of cartoons, letters and documents. The text is clean and unmarked. An attractive set. First edition.
