Includes Nos. 1-30 (all authored by Edwards) of the Preprints from the Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences, published from July 7, 1873 - July 15, 1878, followed by 3 leaves containing photographic prints of species by Bradley and Rulofson of San Francisco, explanatory text, and an index. Bound in is a cabinet card mounted photograph of Henry Edwards (1827-1891) from the Boston studio of Warren's Portraits, which is inscribed on the back by Edwards to a fellow entomologist "To my friend Dr. James S. Bailey - with warmest regards of Hy. Edwards New York July 9, 1881." A note included in the publication states that Papers Nos. 23-30 exist as Preprints only, according to Franclemont (1973). After his death, Edwards' collection of 300,000 insect specimens was placed at the American Museum of Natural History. Measures 9 3/8" (height) (239mm).
