iv, 138 pages of text. Original maroon cloth binding is moderately worn and soiled. Original marbled front endpaper was re-attached by a conservator. Illustrated with four mounted photographic prints, three of which are carte-de-visite portraits. Inscription on a front endpaper "Presented to Mrs. Jos. W. Moulton, by Robert + Christiana, children of the late John Tilllson and Christiana H, his wife." A later pencil notation also by the Tillson family above that, and a more modern previous owner's name written below all. There are a few pages with small contemporary pen or pencil marks, and a few pages have minor stains. Protected in a black clamshell box with printed paper spine label. Sold by Wright Howes, with the price and inventory code written in his distinctive hand. Included is a copy of a Goodspeed's catalog from October 1953 that Howes sent to the named previous owner who was Howes' customer. In the Goodspeed catalog the Tillson book is the first item, described in four pages of detail, under the heading RARE MIDDLE-WESTERNER. Included is an 11 pages pamphlet by Gen John Tillson, titled: Commemorative Address on Decoration Day, May 30th, 1872, at Quincy, Illinois. "Reminiscences..." is the original text of what was reprinted in 1919 as one of the "Lakeside Classics" by R.R. Donnelley at the Lakeside Press in Chicago, retitled "A Woman's Story of Pioneer Illinois." Howes T268; Streeter Sale 1516; Graff 4152; C.G. Littell Sale. Measures 8.25 inches (height) (209mm).
