Levi Eshkol (1895-1969), signed this 1967 first day cover in Hebrew while serving as Israeli Prime Minister (1963-1969). Postmarked in Jerusalem on August 16th, 1967, with three canceled stamps including The Western Wall, Israeli Defense Forces, and Straits of Tiran. On this day, access to the Temple Mount, venerated as a holy site in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, was placed fully under the control of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf by Israel's Ministry of Religion. Eshkol led the Israeli government during and after the Six-Day War and was the first Israeli Prime Minister to die in office. Measures over 6.75 inches wide and just under 4 inches tall (174mm x 100mm). Framed under glass.
