Lugduni Batavorum, Leiden, Netherlands: Excudit Ioannes Patius, 1617. 2nd Edition. Hardcover. Octavo (8vo). Very good- condition. Item #020490

[viii], 183 pages of text. Vellum spine and corners, with paper-covered boards. Boards are worn and soiled, remaining intact. Small tear to spine without loss. Text is moderately browned, with the title page the most affected. Stamp of "F.H. Foster" on title page, which is that of prominent American theologian Frank Hugh Foster (1851-1935). Several instances of old ink underlining and marginalia in the text and on the endpapers. Grotius wrote the book to refute the teachings of Faustus Socinus, who denied that Christ's death was a payment for humanity's sins. This is the second edition, printed the same year as the first and by the same printer.
