There is a tiny perforation at the front gutter, and minimal bumping to the extremities and minor rubbing to the extremities. Decorated with a gilt device of a ship under sail and gilt lettering. The inner hinges are weakened but remain firmly attached. The original unclipped dustjacket has a few small tears and creases, with minor shelfwear and minimal toning to the spine; protected in archival Mylar. The original glassine wrapper has moderate shelfwear, and is protected in archival Mylar under the dustjacket. Lacks the original slipcase. Number 70 of 377 copies of a limited edition signed by Joseph Conrad on the limitation page. Printed on thick hand-made laid paper, top edge gilt, other edges deckled and untrimmed, and many pages uncut and unopened. A few page edges with tiny tears. A couple of early catalogue descriptions are tipped-in onto the front endpaper. Illustrated with a tissue-guarded frontisportrait of the author in photogravure after an etching by Muirhead Bone.
