Folding route map of the French Empire and the Kingdom of Italy. Folded into 36 sections, and finely printed on thick handmade paper. Measures approximately 21.5" x 30.5 (width x height). Map of the departments of the French Empire in 1812, at the height of the Napoleonic conquests. It was drawn up by the French geographer Jean-Baptiste Poirson, and published in Paris by the bookseller-publisher Hyacinthe Langlois. In 1812, the territory of the French Empire was at its peak, and had 133 departments. The four departments conquered from Catalonia and created in January 1812 are not included here.
