Three-page letter written sometime around 1890, following her highly successful 1889 operatic season, the legendary Australian soprano Dame Nellie Melba (1861-1931) and her husband George settled into a rented apartment on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Written to Mathilde Marchesi (1821-1913), German mezzo-soprano, a singing teacher, and a proponent of the bel canto vocal method. CONDITION: Folded, stained, and repaired at one seam with yellowed conservator's tape.
